I haven’t slept in a week!

I’m completely exhausted.  What do I do?

While there is no substitute for a good night’s sleep, and a colicky baby can sure make that impossible, there are some other things you can do to make sure that your body and immune system can handle the new demands placed on them.

Finding twenty minutes to catch a nap will give your body  a chance to begin restoring.  You might not feel rested but it’s a start.

Eat right! I cannot stress this enough.  Many recent studies have shown how poor sleeping leads to poor eating.  Your cravings for sugary and salty foods will increase when you’re tired — a proven fact.

Eating poorly will not give you more energy.  In fact, it will do the exact opposite.  And your mood, which is probably not great to begin with, will deteriorate even further.

Take the time to get the fruits and vegetables that you need.   If not for you, then do it for the little one keeping you up all night.

Even with the right food, if  you’re not getting enough sleep, you are going to need some extra help.

Consider taking vitamin supplements. At the very least, popping a good quality multi-vitamin will help rebuild some of your physical and emotional resources.  Lord knows you are going to need it.
