I haven’t slept in a week!
I’m completely exhausted. What do I do?
While there is no substitute for a good night’s sleep, and a colicky baby can sure make that impossible, there are some other things you can do to make sure that your body and immune system can handle the new demands placed on them.
My baby is up all night, does she have colic?
A baby that cries at night may not have colic.
The crying baby can just be tired.
The fussy baby can be an underslept baby.
Before I had children, I just assumed that since baby animals sleep and eat with no training, human babies would too, right? Well, now as a mother of three, I know how wrong I was. Human babies need plenty of training. The curse of our bigger brain, I guess.
Swaddling for Colic Relief
Swaddling is the practice of wrapping your baby tightly in a blanket. It has been around for centuries and is highly effective at calming and soothing a newborn. Dr. Harvey Karp, in his book Happiest Baby on the Block, has re-popularized swaddling and brought it back as an effective tool for calming even the fussiest of babies. As colic remedies go, it is one of the best.
