How many colic remedies have you tried, that haven’t worked?

Do you feel like you can’t handle another day like today?

Let me help you find the relief from colic your searching for.

Welcome to colic-remedies, the site devoted to colic remedies that work. I have researched all of the colic remedies I could find, and created a colic remedies guidebook that does not focus on one solution, but walks you through simple steps to determine the cause of your baby’s colic and then provides you with the proven remedy for that cause.

Hello. My name is Abby Humphrey. I am the mother of three girls. My third daughter, who is now 18 months old, began showing signs of colic at two weeks old.

After four weeks of misery, I was crazy trying to get just a little colic relief. And I felt a lot of guilt because she suffered for weeks while I tried anything that I thought would work.

If you have not identified the cause of your baby’s colic, don’t feel bad. I was so exhausted during those four weeks that It was impossible to do research.

I remember how tired I was, and if only someone else could do the research and help me to find out what was causing my baby so much pain.

This is what I’ve done for you when I created my colic remedies guidebook.

Do you feel inadequate as a parent because you cannot soothe your baby? Do you feel incompetent? Do you get easily frustrated and angry when your baby refuses to calm down? Are you starting to cry as much as your child? Are you jealous when your spouse gets to leave the house and go to work? Do you feel guilty for these feelings? Is a colic remedy for colic relief all you think about?

You are not alone.
Twenty percent of babies suffer from colic. And twenty percent of parents do as well. Colic is a miserable, stressful, exhausting experience. Worse, you are often told by your doctor that you will just have to suffer through it. There are colic remedies, but some work some don’t and it is just something you will have to wait out, it will end after a few months.

A complete system that provides proven colic remedies

As a result my painful experience, I decided to create a system for:

Finding the causes of colic.

Understanding the many colic remedies that exist.

Knowing when to use the different colic remedies that are out there.

Don’t believe a doctor who tells you the “Do nothing” strategy is your only option.

I know that you want to understand why your baby is so unhappy. That’s why you’re online right now, searching for colic remedies. Your doctor might tell you that there are no colic remedies. That is wrong. In fact, there are so many colic remedies out there that it can be overwhelming. It can seem impossible to figure out where to start and which ones to trust.

That is the help that I want to provide for you.

Go To Colic Remedies Guidebook Now!

One thing I used to find confusing was how after a bout of baby-caused terrible sleep deprivation, I would get a good night’s sleep and wake up more exhausted than when I went to bed. I expected to be refreshed and couldn’t understand what was going on. Through my understanding of Chinese Medicine, I finally realized that I was suffering from adrenal fatigue.

When you are chronically sleep deprived, you start running off adrenaline energy as that is all you have left. It is akin to running your car on fumes. Often you can be surprised by how energetic you feel, especially given how little sleep you are getting. The energy you are feeling is not true energy, however, but the manic adrenaline energy. Once you start to get true, deep sleep again, what happens is that you start replenishing your storehouse of true energy. This tells your body that you no longer need to run off adrenaline. When adrenaline stops being overproduced, you crash because, even though you might have gotten a couple of good nights of sleep, you’re gas tank is still low. And since you no longer have the false front of adrenaline propping you up, you feel more tired than you did before.

I have had clients tell me that they liked it better when they were hopped up on adrenaline. Understandable – it’s no fun to feel how tired you truly are. However, the price of living off adrenaline as a long-term strategy is fairly high – burnout, stress related illnesses, chronic exhaustion. This is no recipe for true living. Instead, see living off adrenaline as a safety net; a way to get through when you have no other choice, such as when you are up all night, night after night, with a newborn who has colic. But know that, as soon as possible, your body needs you to get back to the habits that build the true energy that keeps it healthy – good sleep, good food and deep breathing. These are the processes through which deep, centered energy is created.

So if you are experiencing an adrenaline crash and are tempted to return to bad habits in order to prolong the high, don’t do it! Give your body a chance to rebuild it’s storehouse. In the long run, you will be far better off.

I’m completely exhausted. What do I do?

While there is no substitute for a good night’s sleep, and a colicky baby can sure make that impossible, there are some other things you can do to make sure that your body and immune system can handle the new demands placed on them.

Finding twenty minutes to catch a nap will give your body a chance to begin restoring. You might not feel rested but it’s a start.

Eat right! I cannot stress this enough. Many recent studies have shown how poor sleeping leads to poor eating. Your cravings for sugary and salty foods will increase when you’re tired — a proven fact.

Eating poorly will not give you more energy. In fact, it will do the exact opposite. And your mood, which is probably not great to begin with, will deteriorate even further.

Take the time to get the fruits and vegetables that you need. If not for you, then do it for the little one keeping you up all night.

Even with the right food, if you’re not getting enough sleep, you are going to need some extra help.

Consider taking vitamin supplements. At the very least, popping a good quality multi-vitamin will help rebuild some of your physical and emotional resources. Lord knows you are going to need it.

What are the right vitamins to take?

First, if you are breastfeeding, make sure you ask your doctor before starting on any vitamins. The best place to start is with Vitamin B12. But please exercise caution.

B-12 is the one that is the least likely to cause any problems. It is a water soluble vitamin, and as such, what you don’t use gets flushed out of your body.

How does B-12 help me and my baby with colic? Remember, fatigue = sick. When you’re tired, your immune system is less likely to be able to fight off colds.

B-12 helps the body in so many ways that it really should be taken all of the time. There are a number of ways to get this vitamin. B-12 is obtained mostly through animal foods so unfortunately eating more vegetables will not help. The types of plants that are high in b-12 are primarily kelp and algae but most of us are not going to be too thrilled about eating either.

The more common way to get extra B-12 is through: (worst to best delivery methods)

Pills

Liquid B-12

Injections of B-12.

Pills are the least effective delivery method, as much of the value of the vitamin never makes it past the intestines.

Liquid or Sublingual (under the tongue) B12 comes in a dropper and is the easy to take. It costs more than pills but is more effective.

B12 injections. If you are feeling beyond tired this may be a healthy alternative to caffeine. You have to be able to deal with needles, however. While this is by far the most expensive way to get your B-12 hit, it is extremely effective.

Any of these can easily be obtained on-line.

I am hearing a lot about vitamin D these days. What’s the deal?

Vitamin D is crucial for your health although care needs to be exercised when adding vitamin D supplements to your diet.

Why do I need to be careful when taking vitamin D?

The first reason is because vitamin D is also a hormone.

The D vitamin is really a group of fat soluble hormones called secosteroids. Vitamin D is generally thought to be responsible for bone density, but it is responsible for a whole host of other important biologic functions. It helps to improve circulation, boosts the immune system and gives us energy.

What are the benefits of adding vitamin D?

The exact benefits are not exactly clear, but D deficiency has been linked to a host of problems.

Early onset of osteoporosis

Poor muscle strength

Autoimmune disease

Some forms of cancer.

Remember that if your baby’s colic is keeping you up all night, you’re tired and your immune system is working overtime. Anything you can do to boost it is going to help.

National Institute of Health

How do you get vitamin D?

It is created naturally when we are exposed to the sun, and it does occur in a small range of foods, like milk.

The problem with taking vitamin D supplements is that this vitamin is fat soluble. Unlike water soluble vitamins, it does not break down and the body will store what is not used. If there is too much in your system, you can actually build up a toxicity. Fat soluble vitamins also only break down in the presence of fat. Therefore you must take vitamin D with food. Beware that some people are sensitive to vitamin D.

It is best to check with your doctor before taking it, especially if you are breastfeeding.

A baby that cries at night may not have colic.

The crying baby can just be tired.

I always assumed that babies would just know when to sleep on their own. I figured that from an evolutionary standpoint, it was crazy enough that a baby had to be taught to breastfeed. Baby animals can do it with no training but human babies need to learn?

That just seems to make survival of the species that much more difficult. But I adjusted and taught my babies to breastfeed. But as a new mother, it never occurred to me that I would also need to teach my first daughter, Kaeli, when and how to sleep. I just figured her body would tell her when she was tired and, unlike me with all of my social conditioning, she wouldn’t fight it in order to cross off more things on her to do list. I figured healthy sleep habits would develop naturally.

They didn’t. A friend finally got me the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. Following the book changed everything for my family. My children sleep so much better as a result of his advice. I recommend that any parent get a copy for themselves today.

I spoke with a friend of mine tonight and she told me about her baby’s colic. When her little girl was 2 months old she began to cry. They tried a number of things, but not much was helping.

Then one of her husband’s aunts called her and said that this was actually a common problem. She told my friend to stop drinking or eating all milk products. Get rid of everything and be careful what you buy in the store. Read the label and look for milk based ingredients. You’ll be surprised where the milk shows up.

My friend did this and, while it did not happen overnight, her baby’s colic did clear up.

For the best infant nutrition, pick the right milk source and eventually introduce the infant to solid foods. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that infants be fed breast milk or iron-fortified formula during the first 12 months of life. Between ages 4 – 6 months, certain solid foods may be added. Breast milk or iron-fortified formula, along with age-appropriate solid foods and juices, during the first year of life provides the most balanced nutrition.

If your baby is having symptoms of colic, then getting rid of the cow’s milk in your and your baby’s diet is a great place to start.

In general, when a baby is nursing, the breast milk coming from mom is the perfect source of nutrition. It has the right combination of vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats and, most importantly, antibodies. The only way your baby can pick up these important antibodies is from the mother’s breast milk.

One of the problems with cow’s milk is, although it contains many of the same ingredients as human milk, the amounts are all wrong. Let’s face it – a cow is making milk for a baby that is ten to twenty times the size of a human baby. The mix just has to be different. Even organic milk is simply too disproportionate for babies below a year old.

Sometimes when a mother’s milk is upsetting a baby it can mean that the ratios of the ingredients are not right. This is not unusual for a first time mother and it can sometimes take up to three months for things to work themselves out. Speak to your doctor about strategies for making breastfeeding work, such as maternal dietary changes.
